This contemporary terraced house kitchen extension in Buckingham, South East London, transforms a traditional family home into a bright, spacious and characterful living environment. Working in collaboration with interior designer Suellen Farias, we developed a cohesive interior design scheme that celebrates natural materials, bespoke joinery and playful moments of colour.
Taking inspiration from the cedar cladding of the rear extension, the interiors embrace a warm, natural palette of oak, earthy tones and tactile finishes, creating a seamless connection between inside and out. Bespoke kitchen cabinetry, patterned tiles and carefully considered pops of colour introduce personality, balancing contemporary design with the character of the existing London terraced house.
A key consideration in the architectural design was maximising natural light throughout the ground floor. Carefully positioned rooflights bring daylight deep into the centre of the property, ensuring the new rear kitchen extension enhances rather than compromises the existing spaces.
The spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area forms the heart of the home, complemented by a dedicated butler's pantry providing practical storage and functionality. Bespoke oak joinery plays an important role throughout, with carefully crafted cabinetry, concealed storage and integrated cat flap openings that provide discreet routes for the family's feline companion. These playful architectural details bring a personal touch to the interiors, demonstrating how thoughtful design can accommodate every member of the household.
The downstairs powder room offers a particularly playful moment, inspired by the vibrant Hollyhocks wallpaper by House of Hackney. Bold floral patterns, warm-toned tiles and carefully selected finishes create a colourful, characterful space that contrasts beautifully with the more restrained natural palette elsewhere.
The result is a thoughtfully designed terraced house renovation in Buckingham, demonstrating how a contemporary kitchen extension, bespoke interior design and carefully considered architectural detailing can transform a traditional London home.
