This transformation of a Grade II listed home, where the challenge was to create a contemporary kitchen and dining space that could dramatically improve everyday family life while remaining sympathetic to the historic character of the property.

The existing ground floor was reconfigured to improve circulation and create a much stronger connection between the kitchen, dining area and garden. At the centre of the new extension, a vaulted ceiling rises to a generous rooflight at the ridge, bringing natural light deep into the interior and creating a dramatic sense of height above the dining space. Large sliding glazed doors open directly onto the new patio, allowing the room to flow naturally outside for dining and entertaining.

Our interior design approach takes cues from the heritage of the house without trying to recreate a period interior. A deep heritage green kitchen with traditional cabinetry and warm brass fittings provides a timeless foundation, sitting comfortably alongside both the listed building and the contemporary architecture of the extension.

A bold patterned tiled floor runs through the space, introducing personality, warmth and a playful element that reflects the character of our clients. Natural timber furniture, vintage pieces and carefully considered accessories soften the new architecture and give the interior the feeling of having evolved naturally with the house. We kept the old external stone wall exposed and added spotlighting along to pick up on the stone work at night and make a feature of the houses character.

The result is a characterful interior for a Grade II listed home that balances heritage and contemporary design; combining a bespoke kitchen, strong material choices, improved circulation and abundant natural light to create a space that feels both established and distinctly personal.
