West Temple Sheen
A complete renovation of a post-war bungalow into a contemporary family home.

The transformation of this bungalow began with a respectful nod to its origins, retaining the footprint of the original dwelling while reimagining its potential. A significant step was the addition of a new floor, effectively doubling the size of the home and opening up exciting architectural possibilities.

‍

Material choices for the extension respond to the surrounding context. Red brick ties the design to the neighbouring homes, while slate roofing and dark zinc cladding reference local landmarks, including a nearby church, ensuring the house sits harmoniously within its setting.

‍

Working within a conservation area required careful negotiation between contemporary aspirations and historic preservation. Through meticulous planning, the project navigated these challenges to create a design that is both sensitive and forward-looking.

‍

Inside, the new kitchen and dining area forms the heart of the home. Spacious and functional, it connects effortlessly to an outdoor entertaining space through large sliding doors, creating a fluid relationship between interior and exterior.

‍

The result is a thoughtfully designed family home that balances heritage, modernity, and the rhythms of contemporary family life.
