Harehill Pool House
A pool house with gym, yoga, and Pilates studio.

Set within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Green Belt, this project was designed to be subtle on the land while delivering a versatile, contemporary space for wellness, fitness, and entertaining.

‍

The brief encompassed a gym, yoga and Pilates studio, sauna, changing and shower areas, a kitchenette, and a plant room for the existing pool, alongside flexible social spaces. Challenges included retaining the original concrete floor slab, squaring off awkward corners, and extending the footprint without disturbing the substructure, requiring careful attention to every detail.

‍

To root the building in its surroundings, it was partially tucked into the landscape, and a planted green roof softens its profile from the main house. Warm cedar cladding, which naturally weathers over time, blends the structure with the garden and woodland, while clean lines, landscaped steps, and a generous pivot door add understated elegance.

‍

Inside, exposed timber soffits add drama and height, while large sliding glass doors connect the main space directly to the pool terrace. The result is a balanced, light-filled wellness retreat that harmonises with the natural setting and supports both exercise and relaxation.
