A 21st century barn conversion repurposing a concrete framed building into a large family house.

The permission was granted using Permitted Development Rights to convert a concrete framed agricultural building into a large family home. Class Q of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 enable agricultural barns to be converted to family homes in situations where planning permission would not normally be granted. The building has been in filled with timber cladding to both floors with a new zinc roof.

The existing building has been simply subdivided into three bays which allows for a double height gallery and entrance hall referencing historic barn structures. New large windows with concealed ventilation hatches have been designed to maximise light into the building whilst reducing window framing. A concrete screed floor has been designed to maintain the agricultural aesthetic.
