Old School Pool House

  • Project Type: Residential
  • Client: Private
  • Status: Design
  • Location: Canterbury

Brief

The brief is to refurbish the Old School House incorporating an indoor swimming pool, changing area with WC, steam room and sauna with indoor sitting area adjacent to the pool.

Proposal

We are proposing to add a large glass wall facing the new courtyard garden with doors that can open up in the summer. The pool will be raised such that it is flush with a low seating plinth facing the garden. This emphasises the connection between the pool and the garden. There is the potential to add solar photo-voltaic panels to the roof if desired.

Internally we are proposing to fully expose the vaulted roof with up lighting to enhance the height of the space.

Externally we are also proposing to open up the existing masonry single storey flat roof building to create a covered outdoor kitchen area. To visually upgrade this building we are proposing to add a sedum planted roof to significantly improve the outlook from the Old Chapter House. External pool plant will be located and screened between the two buildings.
