A fully glazed extension blurring the boundaries between house and courtyard garden.

Our clients commissioned us to remodel their dilapidated London town house. Our response was counter intuitive, we opted to demolish the existing single storey rear extension to make the footprint of the house smaller which maximizes the courtyard garden space. We designed a structural glazed extension to bring as much natural light as possible into the house – blurring the boundaries between the interior and exterior of the building. A full width two-meter-wide pivot door ensures the space feels more part of the garden than the kitchen. The house is in a conservation area and the design of the extension has been designed to impact as minimally as possible on the Victorian building, the lightweight glazing contrasts with the solidity of the brick terrace, emphasizing the difference between the two periods of building, adding a new chapter to history of the building.
