An extensively modernised and fully automated 1960 chalet house with landscaped gardens.

The clients brief was to fully transform every square centimetre of the house to completely update it to suit their current requirements. The house has been fully automated with windows, shades, heating, lighting and security all being controlled from a central hub. The house has been extended to the side to create a fourth bedroom and new kitchen with a gym extension to the rear.

Rhythm & Order

The façade of the building is modulated with regular glazed panels to the reception room, the gym and green house. All glass panels are over sailed with a timber briese soleil to protect the rooms from the strong summer sun.

Designed Space

Each new space has been designed with a corresponding garden room. The gym reflects an informal Japanese style garden, the main reception room looks onto a central dining space and the kitchen opens onto a sun space.

Garden Area

The house is separated from the garden with a rill with stone bridges crossing the water into the garden rooms. The first floor has been remodelled so that all bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and a new master bedroom suite has been created in a new roof dormer.

The house was a traditional 1960s chalet bungalow on a suburban plot with no long views. The design intent is to create a series of private inward-looking reflective spaces that maximises the domestic scale of the garden.
