A generous modern rear extension to an Edwardian house in Kent.

Our clients commissioned us to create a large open plan kitchen and family room to the rear of an Edwardian house in Kent. The original house is constructed from a local stock brick and the extension is constructed to match. Playful use of herringbone and stack bond brick reflect which elements are load bearing.

Material Palette & Design

The central brick panel conceals three large sliding pocket doors that disappear when opened with views out to the large private garden, creating a seamless opening between the inside and outside.

Weather Protection

Deep reveals provide some protection from the rain and the south facing extension uses the deciduous wooded garden to protect the house from strong summer sun while maximising solar gain in the winter.
